Original Home: She was born in Arkansas City and raised in Dermott, Arkansas.
Mabel Winston grew up in Dermott in Chicot County. After completing school there, she attended the University of Arkansas for a year. She returned to Dermott and married Harvey Parnell on June 2, 1902. They had two daughters.
The Parnells moved to Little Rock in 1928. In that year Harvey Parnell went from being the state's Lieutenant Governor to Governor when John Martineau resigned the position to become a federal judge.
Mabel Winston was a busy woman who belonged to many clubs and organizations. She served on the Board of Directors of the Florence Crittenden Home. Her club memberships included the state Federation of Women's Clubs, the Women's Democratic Club, the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Southeast Arkansas District Garden Club, and the First Families of Virginia. She also belonged to the Methodist Episcopal Church.
