Jeanette Edris grew up and attended a private school in Seattle, Washington. She went to New York to continue her education where she graduated from Finch College. After this she attended the University of Washington.
She met her fourth husband, Winthrop Rockefeller, while living in New York. Following their marriage she and her children moved to her husband's home at Petit Jean Mountain, Arkansas. In New York she had volunteered with mental health programs and continued this work in Arkansas along with other interests. She belonged to the Pulaski County Mental Health Association and the Urban League. She served as president for the Arkansas and National Associations for Mental Health. She sat on the boards of the Florence Crittenden Home and Philander Smith College. In 1962 the readers of the Arkansas Democrat gave her the distinction of Woman of the Year. She and her husband patronized the Arkansas Arts Center where Mrs. Rockefeller suggested the idea for the artmobile.
As First Lady of Arkansas she oversaw the renovation of the Governor's Mansion. She and the Governor donated some artifacts to the mansion and she also gathered other donations for this project.
