What You Should Know Before Your Visit

Before Your Visit: Please be certain that you have received your tour confirmation and that the information on the sheet is correct. If you do not have a confirmation form, please call the museum to confirm your reservation.

Arrival: Please check in at the Information Desk approximately 10 minutes prior to your tour time. Groups arriving more than 15 minutes late will not be guaranteed their program or tour.

Parking for Cars: Visitors who park in the parking garage beneath the DoubleTree Hotel, located just west of the Old State House Museum, will receive one free hour of parking. Don't forget to bring the ticket into the museum so it can be validated. Parking is also available on Conway Street (the one-way street running south between the DoubleTree and the museum.) Metered parking spots (by the hour or half-hour) are available on Markham and surrounding streets.

Bus Directions: Please drop passengers off in front of the building. Bus parking is available in the River Market area, approximately 6 blocks east on Markham Street. Call for more information.

Reservations: Reservations are required for all groups and must be made through the Education Department. Tours should be scheduled at least two weeks in advance. Please fill out the reservation form and mail (or fax) it to the address listed at the bottom of the form.

Group Size: A minimum of 12 persons or 10 students and a maximum of 150 persons per group or school per day. Groups with over 35 persons may be divided into smaller groups. School groups with less than 30 students should have a grade span of no more than three years.

Chaperone Policy: Chaperones are required for every school or youth group. There should be one adult per every 10 fourth-grade through 12th grade student. One adult chaperone per eight students in grade three or under.

Cancellations: Please call the Education Department immediately at (501) 324-8641 if you need to cancel a tour or program so that another group may be scheduled in your place. Cancellations should be made AT LEAST ONE WEEK IN ADVANCE, except in cases of emergency.

Dining Opportunities: The Old State House Museum does not operate a food or beverage concession. Visitors are encouraged to try one of the restaurants in the blocks around the museum or in The River Market district. School groups may have lunch on the lawn (weather permitting) with prior approval from the Education Department. Groups will be expected to clean up when they finish. Food is not allowed inside the galleries of the museum. All food should be packed separately from student book bags and left on the bus or at the Information Desk.

Camera Equipment: Flash photography is permitted in some galleries inside the building. Galleries where photography is prohibited will have signs posted.

Large Items: Backpacks, briefcases, purses and bags larger than 13" by 17", and long umbrellas will not be allowed inside the exhibits. They will be kept at the Information Desk while you tour the museum.

Sketching Policy: Sketching is permitted inside the museum. Sketch pads must be 16" by 20" or smaller with pencils only. Students may not lean against exhibit walls or exhibit cases when sketching. Teachers and adult chaperones MUST be present while students are sketching in the galleries.

Student Assignments in the Museum: These assignments must be completed in pencil. Students may not lean against exhibit walls or exhibit cases when doing assignments. Teachers and adult chaperones MUST be present while students are completing their assignments in the galleries.
