This is the history of the countless ordinary Arkansas women who sustained society with their unpaid labor as lovers, companions, homemakers, cooks, cleaners, farm hands, raisers of children, nurses to the sick, conveyors of tradition, and keepers of the faith. It is a story told, as much as possible, through the words of the women themselves, and through extraordinary images gathered from archives statewide.
